ANSI/TIA-470-C FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
These
are some of the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) that are
customers are asking about TIA-470-C: |
| 1. |
Q:
What is ANSI/TIA-470-C?
A:
ANSI/TIA-470-C is a
performance standard for analog telephones.
The standard consists of a number of sections; each section
addresses a different performance requirement (for example
470.110-C specifies the handset acoustic performance
requirements). |
| 2. |
Q:
How can I find out which
sections are relevant to my company?
A: TIA-470.000-C
is an ‘Overview of Performance Standards for Analog
Telephones’ and it lists each of the sections and their titles.
This document is available from TIA
free of charge (registration is required). |
| 3. |
Q:
When does the ANSI/TIA-470-C
take effect?
A:
As each standard in the 470-C
series is published, it can be referenced as a performance
requirement. Once all
of the performance requirements included in
ANSI/TIA/EIA-470-B-1997 have been addressed in 470-C, the 470-B
standard will be withdrawn. |
| 4. |
Q:
What is the difference
between 470-B and 470-C
A:
Microtronix has written a
white paper on the differences.
You can download this paper from our web
site. |
| 5. |
Q:
Is this requirement a
mandatory specification?
A:
The TIA-470-C standard is not
mandated by government regulators, but it may be required to sell
your product; buyers for retail outlets may choose to offer only
products that meet all or part of the TIA-470-C performance
requirements. |
| 6. |
Q:
Can a Model 500 be upgraded
to this new specification?
A:
Some modules of a Model 500
Test System may be used in an upgrade to the TAT
or the WPTS, which are the only Microtronix Test Systems that can
test to TIA-470C. |
| 7. |
Q:
Can a Model 501 be upgraded
to this new specification?
A:
Some modules of a Model 501
Test System may be used in an upgrade to the TAT
or the WPTS, which are the only Microtronix Test Systems that can
test to TIA-470C. |
| 8. |
Q:
What product(s) does
Microtronix offer for the CPE
Load Simulator?
A:
Microtronix offers two different CPE
Load Simulators that meet the requirements specified in
TIA-470.110-C. There
is a CPE Load Simulator module that is part of the TIA-470-C
Country Kit Application and Microtronix also offers a stand-alone CPE
Load Simulator for use with other test equipment. |
| 9. |
Q:

specification states that a Head and Torso Simulator (HATS) shall
be used. Is this
really necessary?
A:
To perform testing to the
requirements of 470-C you must have a HATS. |
| 10. |
Q:
The ANSI/TIA-470-C

be used. What is
Microtronix’ solution?
A:
Microtronix offers a HATS
interface to connect a HATS to Microtronix Test Systems. |
| 11. |
Q:
Is a HATS suitable for a
production environment?
A:
No, a HATS is laboratory
equipment. |
| 12. |
Q:
Our engineering department
does not have the expertise with your equipment.
What is the learning curve and setup time for your
equipment?
A:
The Microtronix Test Systems
offer a complete testing solution that our customers find simple
to use. Microtronix
offers different levels of training at our facilities; we also
offer on-site setup and training. |
